American Idol Makes it TO the TOP

For Carrie Underwood, ‘American Idol’ winner 2005, the American dream came true. A country singer at heart, Carrie’s rendition of the National Anthem has been described as beautiful and stunning. This farm girl turned vegetarian, considers herself as a normal girl that worked hard and liked school, adores her family and loves to sing.
“Growing up in the country, says Carrie in her biography, I enjoyed things like playing on dirt roads, climbing trees, catching little woodland creatures and, of course, singing.” At the age of 22 Carrie became a vegetarian and proudly wore a “V is for Vegetarian” T-shirt on ‘American Idol’.
The Youngest of three girls, Carrie loved her older sisters and grew up in a happy and supportive family with a dream to sing.
She started her musical career at a very early age, singing songs in church like “Jesus Love Me”, and recalls a favorite music class teacher, Mrs. Cooper.
In her 3rd thru 5th grade years Carrie played lead roles in school musicals while she pushed her Mom to enter her in talent shows.
Carrie continued to sing in high school events, county fairs, church and car shows but she focused mostly on her school work and graduated 2nd in her class of 2001
College was more important to Carrie than singing when she entered Northeastern State University in Tahequah, Oklahoma but shy Carrie came out of her shell in her freshman year with the help of her Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority who encouraged her to sing.
“One summer I went to a Downtown Country show, a Branson-style show that included singing, dancing and comedy and it was mainly there that I learned what it was like to be in front of a crowd.”
Broadcast journalism was Carrie’s plan after she graduated from college with a degree in Journalism. She got the degree but her career path changed after auditioning and then becoming the winner of TV’s hit show, ‘American Idol.’
Carrie’s recently recorded albums including, ‘Some Hearts’ and ‘Jesus Takes the Wheel’ have already made it to the top with the help of her dedicated fans.
